Summary: 
Read and follow prescriptions/specifications to determine the type of product or device to be fabricated, and the materials and tools that will be required. Construct, fit, maintain, or repair medical supportive devices such as braces, artificial limbs, joints, orthotic supports, and other appliances. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):

•      Construct or receive casts/impressions of patients' torsos or limbs for use as cutting and fabrication patterns.
•      Bend, form, and shape fabric or material to conform to prescribed contours of structural components.
•      Make orthotic or prosthetic devices, using materials such as thermoplastic and thermosetting materials, metal alloys and leather, and hand and power tools.
•      Drill/tap holes for rivets and glue, weld, bolt, and rivet parts together to form prosthetic or orthotic devices.
•      Fit appliances onto patients and make any necessary adjustments.
•      Mark dimensions of parts, using templates and precision-measuring instruments.
•      Instruct patients in use of prosthetic or orthotic devices.
•      Repair, modify, and maintain medical supportive devices, such as artificial limbs and braces, according to specifications. 

Education/Experience:

High school degree with minimum of three years solid work experience. Experience in the O&P industry a plus.

Requirements/skills:
•      Able to work with hands, including good visual capabilities to assess symmetry.
•      Use of basic hand tools: drill press, jig saw, hand saw, rotary grinders.
•      Capable of some heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.)
•      Aptitude for basic math skills, including reading tape measurements.
•      Good reading skills and comprehension skills; potential to learn medical terms pertaining to human anatomy.
